The ICE Band breaks the mould with their cool new single

Date published: 05 November 2009

Rossendale pop-rock quartet The ICE Band is aiming to break the mould with the release of their eagerly awaited debut single.

The unconventional four-piece are aiming to storm the charts at the first time of asking with the anthemic “Look Into My Eyes”, and if they can pull it off, they’ll be claiming a victory for music over mass marketing.

The new single will be released 24th November 2009, with a special launch event at the Pulse Cafe Bar in Todmorden on Saturday 21st November 2009. The single will also be available from selected retailers.

So what sets The ICE Band apart?

Forget the X-Factor, they have the eX-perience factor. Going against the grain of manufactured pop, The ICE Band have an average age of 45 and a combined age approaching 200.

But the band also has a string of over 50 hard hitting gigs under their belts this year alone. Proof that hard work really does pay off. In gigging solidly they have developed a strong fan base and have enjoyed appearances on regional radio stations including BBC Radio Lancashire, BBC Radio Stoke and Preston FM.

Lead singer Janie Britton says The ICE Band are keen to embrace their difference:

“We’re out to prove that you don’t have to be a blonde, 18 year-old, Barbie-like model to succeed in the music business. Some of the best music comes from experience and a pure unadulterated passion for music. For us the music is the most important thing. OK we’re not likely to grace the cover of Vogue magazine but we are keen to show that image isn’t everything.”

Spring chickens, The ICE Band aren’t but where X-Factor’s Alexandra Burke and Leona Lewis flaunt their looks, The ICE Band show off originality, quality melodies and lyrics that stand the test of time.

“It is unusual for a band with our collective age to be releasing a debut single, but we don’t see why that should be a barrier. Hopefully our fans and the radio stations will back us, bringing that ultimate goal of chart success that little bit closer”, says Janie.

“We firmly believe that getting into the charts is a realistic ambition as the music is certainly powerful enough.”

Recorded and mixed in Accrington, “Look Into My Eyes” is the first single to be released from their forthcoming album, due out in 2010, it is a wonderfully subtle attack on the celebrity obsessed world we seem to inhabit. The single is coupled with the “B” side, “We Might Get By”, a country-tinged blast that Taylor Swift would have been proud of.

“I for one wish the song had gone on just a little longer. It's like a desire to hit repeat on the CD player”

“Mingling afterward, I had so much good feedback that I felt the risk in putting on an originals band in what is usually a rock venue was more than worthwhile.”
