Alder Grange opens doors to exciting new sixth form opportunity

Students will be the first to get a taste of what’s being planned for a Rawtenstall school’s new state-of-the-art Sixth Form at its open evening.

Alder Grange Community & Technology School is holding an open evening on Wednesday 18th November from 6.30pm for its new Sixth Form, which opens its doors next year.

The school has been granted planning permission for its £8m four-storey building, which will cater for an additional 300 students and will include post 16 facilities for students as well as medical training rooms and nursery provision.

Iain Hulland, Headteacher at the school, says: “It’s a very exciting time for us, we’re thrilled that we can go ahead with the developments.

“The open evening is a great chance to discover all about the new Sixth Form. Students will be able to pick up a prospectus and find out more about the courses which are on offer to help them prepare for university or employment.”

The Sixth Form will provide specialist facilities including state-of-the-art ICT and library facilities, media and performance space and a nursery and crèche area for child development studies. It will also provide science labs for A-Level and horticulture students and industry standard catering facilities for Hospitality students.

Joanna Griffiths, Deputy Head at the School, adds: “Alder Grange has built a successful reputation and this will continue to the Sixth Form. The expansion will open more doors for youngsters and providing them with opportunities that the likes of BRGS and Haslingden do not cater for.

“We have still got a lot of hard work ahead of us, but we have got over the first obstacle and we can now concentrate on getting the next steps under way.”
