Web tip triggers sample stampede

A leading mirror retailer has been forced to withdraw some of its samples – after national money saving websites offered ‘crafty’ tips on their websites.

Staff at Mirror World were shocked when they suddenly became inundated with requests for their mirror samples overnight. They went from receiving a handful of requests a week to 100s in a day – and from all corners of the globe! It was only later they discovered they were being touted on a number of sites, including Martin Lewis’ Money Saving Expert website as FREE dolls house mirrors.

Andrew Mayers, the man behind Mirror World and Framing World, explains: “We couldn’t believe it when we found out our samples were being featured on Martin Lewis’ website as a cost-effective way to make windows for children’s doll houses!

“Someone must have discovered they are the perfect fit and suddenly word spread that people could get hold of free samples from our website.

“Overnight we had hundreds of requests for the samples. I have been trading for over 20 years and never experienced anything as crazy – we had no idea what was happening at first. We began to grow suspicious when we started receiving requests for samples from people from as far as Australia.

“We did see the funny side of it – and we know if we ever decide to branch out there would be plenty of interest!”

Mirror World has been the UK’s leading online mirror and framing store for more than 20 years, with clients ranging from homes to hotels and blue chip organisations like the Lowry Art Gallery, Manchester United and JD Sports.

It opened its first store on Queen’s Square in Rawtenstall, Rossendale last year. For more information about Mirror World and Framing World visit www.mirrorworld.co.uk and www.framingworld.co.uk
