POLICE in Haslingden are appealing for witnesses to come forward following a serious road traffic collision on the Haslingden by-pass on Saturday 24 October.
The collision took place at 9.08am on the A56 Haslingden by-pass when a White Citroen Saxo left the road on a sweeping right hand bend and collided with a large road sign causing extensive damage to the driver’s side of the vehicle and trapping the driver.
Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service attended and removed the roof and passenger door which were trapping the driver. The 21 year old man from Ramsbottom is believed have sustained head injuries and broken bones. He was taken to Fairfield Hospital where his condition is described as very poorly.
One lane of the A56 remained closed for three hours.
Sgt Tracey Ward from the Road Policing Unit said: “I would appeal to anyone that witnessed the collision or has any information to contact police on 08451 25 35 45.”
