Town Council Support Neighbourhood Team in Crime Drive
Date published: 22 July 2009
Whitworth Town Council is helping to drive down crime by sponsoring a new vehicle which will be used by the area’s Neighbourhood Policing Team.
They have financed a new Volkswagon Fox for Neighbourhood Police Officers PC John Bailey and PCSO Heidi Kirkbright which will ensure that they have transport readily available to them when they need it.
It is the second time that the council have sponsored a car – the previous car was a Yellow Ford Ka which the team used for two years to great effect.
Accepting the keys to the new dark grey car, PC John Bailey said: “We are delighted that the town council has once again chosen to support the work of local officers like myself and PCSO Kirkbright.
“The car will be a valuable asset enabling PCSO Kirkbright and myself to visit residents, schools and businesses across Whitworth and give them on the spot crime and community safety advice. It will also assist us in travelling from the Police Station to our beat when we are on foot patrol.
“The support being offered to us by the Town Council is warmly appreciated.”
Town Clerk Karen Douglas said: “We work very closely with our local officers and understand the difficulties that the geography of the Town poses. We were delighted to be able to support local Police officers and assist them in ensuring Whitworth remains a safe place to live and work.”
