Police Welcome Sentence Handed Down to Bogus Police Officer
Date published: 06 November 2009
DETECTIVES in Rossendale have welcomed the four year sentence handed down today (Friday 6 November) to a man who posed as a police officer in order to steal from the homes of elderly residents.
Keith Glover from George Street in Heywood, Greater Manchester, committed two offences in April and May this year in the Rising Bridge and Crawshawbooth areas of Rossendale. A third offence was committed in Altham.
In each case, he posed as a Police officer saying he needed to examine bank notes to see if they matched some money recovered by officers and in each case, he made off with the cash.
Commenting on the sentencing, Rossendale’s Acting Chief Inspector Sion Hall said: “These were all despicable offences, with Glover specifically targeting the elderly and most vulnerable people in our local communities.
“He not only stole cash, but in posing as a police officer, he also stole a degree of public trust and in one case, he has also stolen the confidence and independence of the victim who is now afraid to answer his door to visitors.
“I am pleased that Glover will now pay for his crimes with a four year prison stint.”
