A CCTV camera in Haslingden has been relocated to provide a greater deterrent to would be criminals.
The camera has been moved from the top of Deardengate to the junction of Deardengate and Blackburn Road.
The new site offers much better views, particularly of the main town centre area of Haslingden.
Haslingden Councillor, Gladys Sandiford first suggested the move several years ago at a PACT Meeting (Police And Communities Together) following a number of incidents in Haslingden Town Centre.
Cllr. Sandiford said: “I am delighted that the camera has been moved. It is now in a much better place to provide a deterrent against crime on Blackburn Road as well as Deadengate.”
The costs of moving the camera have been paid for by Rossendale Community Safety Partnership.
Cllr. Peter Steen, Chair of the Partnership said: “We are really pleased to have been able to support this project. CCTV is an important tool in providing evidence, but plays a much more important role of reducing crime and the fear of crime”.
Trish Ellins, Community Safety Manager added: “We are sure that the relocated Camera will play a big part in providing reassurance to residents and contributing to a safe and secure environment in Haslingden”.
