Dedicated police cars to tackle antisocial behaviour in Rossendale

DEDICATED police cars have taken to the streets Rossendale to deal specifically with anti-social behaviour.

The patrol cars are now out in action from late afternoon onwards every weekend – helping to prevent anti-social behaviour and respond quickly when it does occur.

The cars are concentrating on hotspot areas and repeat victims and prioritise reports of rowdy and inconsiderate behaviour as they are made to the police, allowing an improved response time.

Officers on board also keep informants updated on the action taken against any reports they have made to the police, and provide regular contact with repeat victims.

Any long-term action that may prevent antisocial behaviour is also considered and passed on to the local neighbourhood policing team to progress.

Chief Inspector Ian Sewart from Pennine Police said: “Anti-social behaviour can have a huge impact on people’s lives and hopefully these dedicated cars will be another useful tool for tackling any problems that are reported to us.

“The cars allow us to deal more efficiently and effectively with reports of antisocial behaviour, hopefully reducing the number of reports and the negative impact these types of incidents have on communities.”

Chief Inspector Sewart added: “They are one of a number of initiatives being implemented to tackle anti-social behaviour – and this focused approach appears to be working and is one we want to roll out.

“Anti-social behaviour levels are down right across the Pennine Policing area with far fewer victims than in previous years.”
