Peninne Lancashire 10k – Councillors beat the 1 hour mark

Date published: 13 July 2010

Two members of Rossendale Council completed the Jane Tomlinson Peninne Lancashire 10k run on Sunday 11th July in less than an hour.

Council Leader, Tony Swain and Leisure Portfolio Holder, Cllr. Jason Gedhill both completed the race held in memory of the late Jane Tomlinson CBE.

Tony completed the race in 59 minutes exactly and Jason was a few seconds behind finishing in a time of 59 minutes and 27 seconds despite suffering a hamstring injury during training.

Many people remember Jane's Tomlinson’s brave fundraising and that despite battling cancer she took on huge sporting challenges and raised thousands for charity. She received numerous awards including an MBE, CBE and Sportswoman of the Year.

Council Leader Tony Swain said: "This was a great cause and a lot of the money raised is to support local hospices and the Christie in Manchester. Both Jason and I ran for Rossendale Hospice.”
