Rossendale Mela – Sunday 8th August 2010. 1pm – 6pm.
Date published: 02 August 2010
Rossendale Mela is back for 2010 with a special new twist. Adding to the usual mix of music from Asian and non-Asian bands, this year’s event will include storytelling from the UK’s National Storytelling Laureate, Taffy Thomas MBE.
Now in its 16th year, Rossendale Mela is known as a family friendly event, with fairground sideshows, drumming workshops, face-painting and henna decoration. Music on the Main Stage this year includes local acoustic and rock bands, local dance group ‘Fearless’, and Chinese Lion Dancers which were such a success in 2009.
Headlining the music line-up is Nasir Khan, who has a strong following across the north of England.
Chairman of Rossendale Mela, Cllr Tim Nuttall said: “We have another strong line up of music and side events this year, something for all ages. And we’re especially pleased to include storytelling with Taffy Thomas. Storytelling crosses all cultures and Taffy can entrance all age groups with his tales from around the world.”
“Lancashire Library Service are also lending some of their ‘Living Books’ from a recent event to add real-life stories to Taffy’s repertoire. Living Books are people who tell their own stories, some sad, some funny, but all of interest.”
Mela will be held at New Hall Hey Cricket Ground, (near East Lancs Railway station), Rawtenstall on Sunday 8th August 2010 from 1pm – 6pm.
Rossendale Mela has received support from Lancashire County Council, Rossendale Council, and Lidl.
