Rossendale MP announces first super 'surgery'
Date published: 17 August 2010
Jake Berry, the New Member of Parliament for the Valley, has announced the date of his first Super Surgery in Rossendale.
Taking a 'Question Time' format with Jake in the chair, the panel will include Councillor Tony Swain, Leader and Helen Lockwood, Chief Executive of Rossendale Borough Council, County Councillor Tony Winder, and representatives of the Police, the Primary Care Trust and Pennine Housing.
Jake says: "Politicians and other public servants are often accused of being remote and not listening and these came over to me loud and clear during the Election. There are some tough decisions ahead of us. We did not cause the dire finances of the country but we are the ones sorting it out. I am not expecting an easy ride, but people will get a full and truthful response to all of their questions. People in Rossendale have a proud history of speaking up for themselves and a strong community spirit. This event will only be a success if local people get behind it. I want to send the clear message: this is where we live, let's all play our part in making it better."
Councillor Swain says: "People often say we should get everyone around the table and knock their heads together to get common sense solutions to problems. This is exactly what we are doing and Jake and I will be following up on each and every issue raised."
The first Super Surgery takes place at Rossendale Borough Council's offices at Futures Park, Newchurch Road, Bacup on Wednesday 18 August from 7pm to 8pm. No tickets are necessary, entry is free and refreshments will be provided.
