Three gifted musicians from a Rawtenstall secondary school represented the north of England when they were selected to perform at one of the education world’s highlight events.
Grace O'Malley, Isaac Power and Jessica Haworth from Alder Grange Community & Technology School were handpicked to entertain hundreds of professionals at the Regional Teaching Awards.
The talented students presented a programme of music from opera and music theatre at the prestigious event, which was filmed by the BBC.
The invitation for the students to perform followed the National Teaching Awards, where Alder Grange Headteacher Iain Hulland was on the judging panel.
Music teacher Beverley Harrison, who led the students during their performance said: “The students did us proud during the event and really showed off their talent – in fact they were specially selected to take part.”
Headteacher at Alder Grange, Iain Hulland, added: “It was an honour to be involved in such a huge event, and the audience reaction was superb. Baroness Shirley Williams who was chairing the event made a point of thanking and congratulate the students on their performance.”
Teachers from as far as the Scottish border and Cheshire attended the awards ceremony at the Carriageworks Theatre in Leeds, which celebrates teachers that make a difference in schools.
