MP confirms local bus service will be brought back to Bacup
Date published: 30 August 2010
Jake Berry has had an early success in fighting for the people of Rossendale.
Following the recent loss of the Number 21 bus service around Bacup, Jake was contacted by a number of concerned local residents. Having campaigned directly to Lancashire County Council, Jake has been able to reinstate the service for the people of Bacup.
The bus service, which was a lifeline for many older residents to enable them to access the area of Bacup, was stopped and replaced with a dial-a-ride service, which has proved inadequate and unreliable for many residents who used the service for the purpose of shopping.
Waiting times of approximately two weeks were experienced by residents.
Jake commented, “I am delighted that the 21 bus has been reinstated for residents of Rossendale. Like lots of other public services, we need people to use it or lose it and I would encourage everyone to use this bus service to visit Bacup town centre.
Bacup has one of the strongest markets in Rossendale, the fantastic Russian Tea Rooms and over 100 listed buildings. It really is a great day out.”
