Bacup: Police appeal following road traffic collision

Police are appealing for witnesses following a road traffic collision in Bacup that has left a man dead.

The incident happened at around 3:40pm (Monday 6 September) on Burnley Road close to Deerplay Inn on Burnley Road. A three wheel motorcycle with two riders was involved in a collision with a lorry.

Two air Ambulances landed, one taking a 19 year old man to the Royal Blackburn Hospital with leg injuries and the other a 45 year old man to the Royal Preston Hospital. Sadly this man died shortly after arrival.

The man has bee named as Michael Veevers from Bacup.

The road was closed for three hours whilst accident investigators carried out their work.

Sergeant Gareth Hill from the Road Policing Unit said, "I would like to appeal for anyone who was in the area at the time of the collision to come forward if they have information.

"The roads would have been busy given the time of day this incident occurred and for me to establish what happened then I would ask people to come forward."
