Rossendale Art Market returns

Date published: 24 August 2010

Bacup Market will be hosting its second Art Market on Saturday (4 September) in conjunction with Bacup’s Russian Tearoom.

The market will run alongside the existing popular market and will see artists displaying and selling a range of contemporary arts and crafts.

The artists will be using the open stalls at the Market, in amongst the regular traders, and visitors will be able to pick unique, original pieces of art, from photographic prints, paintings and ceramics, to textiles, cards and calligraphic items.

Artists having stalls at the event include Valley Artists, who work in a variety of media and are based at studios in Waterfoot, as well as Bacup based Ruud van Ruitenbeck who will have some beautiful photographs of Bacup in amongst his wider collection of photographic prints.

To make the event even more exciting, Rossendale Borough Council is teaming up with Bacup’s Russian Tearoom so that visitors can have the chance to sample a huge variety of teas from around the world.

There will also be music to keep visitors entertained.

The events are part of a wider strategy aimed at revitalising Rossendale Markets and supporting market traders and market towns during the difficult economic climate.

Visitors to the Art Market will also be able to pick up fresh produce, household goods, clothing and accessories as Bacup’s Market Traders are open as usual.

Market Manager, Catherine Price of Rossendale Markets said “We’re really pleased to be able to build on the success of last year’s Art Market and are excited to welcome both returning and new artists”.

She added “It’s also really exciting that the Russian Tearoom will be selling their huge range of teas and even providing free tea tasting sessions at 11am and 2pm.”

“The event provides a great opportunity to showcase artists from Rossendale and the Northwest, and support a unique thriving local business. It will hopefully attract visitors to the market from across the borough and beyond and be a fantastic day out for all”.
