Pride in Rossendale Budget 2008

Date published: 11/04/2008

Councillors have approved the Pride in Rossendale initiative, a key part of the 2008/9 budget. This will provide more floral displays and new bins, benches and hanging baskets in the borough. Cllr Brian Essex, Portfolio Holder for a Well Managed Council said: "This budget will help promote Pride in Rossendale as a place to live work and visit. We have listened to what people want and managed to provide it without having big tax increases."

The new budget also includes fre leisure facilities for servicemen and women, cash to keep the main roads looking tidy and more resources to tackle dog fouling, littering and fly tipping.

Improvements will also be made to war memorials/memorial gardens and funding will be available for a new war memorial. Neighbourhood Forums will be strengthened as they are given a say over how money for new street furniture is spent.

The Council will continue to fund Town Centre Caretakers to look after our towns and villages and will invest in new play areas.

Mr Essex added: "We know that Council Tax is a heavy burden for many residents. Our increase this year of 2.9% is less than the rate of inflation for the third year running, which means we have effectively trimmed 2.5% off peoples bills".
