At a special meeting of the Rossendale & Darwen Liberal Democrat Party on Sunday 13th April , the members selected Mr Dale Mulgrew as their Prospective Parliamentary Candidate to contest the next General Election for the Rossendale & Darwen Parliamentary Constituency.
Dale is currently serving as a councillor in Rochdale and is the Council's Portfolio holder for Health and Social Care. He was born and brought up in Rochdale .
He will bring to the Lib Dems in Rossendale an impressive array of talents. This includes being an outstanding communicator, retaining a sound knowledge of national and local politics, and holding a strong track record of championing local involvement in decision making.
Dale said, ‘I am grateful to the Rossendale & Darwen Party for putting their faith in me as their Parliamentary candidate. I am really elated and also very excited about the future prospects for the seat as I think the political winds are altering direction and the next General Election will be very open as people look for change’
‘I am so pleased that I found a constituency in my home region that shares my Northern values. I identify entirely with the strong traditions of the communities of Rossendale & Darwen and would be uncomfortable trying to insert myself into a different area I know nothing about.’
Commenting on Mr Mulgrew’s selection, Rossendale Lib Dem Councillor Catherine Pilling said, ‘We have great confidence that Dale possesses all the qualities and skills that prove to us that he will represent our area more successfully than is being achieved currently. The way our local Labour MP Janet Anderson has failed to support local Post Offices shows the need for better representation in Parliament. We need an MP who is prepared to fight all the way for their constituents’
She added, ‘We hope that in time you will agree with us that he will make a fine Member of Parliament for our area.’
