Brookville application gets go-ahead

A planning application to convert the former old peoples home at Brookville in Whitworth into 42 extra care apartments, has been approved by Rossendale Council.

Fearing that the unused building would become a target for vandals, Green Vale Homes were given responsibility for development of the site.

Green Vale's proposal to demolish the existing buildings and replace it with a new complex, comprising 6 one bedroom apartments, and 36 two bedroom apartments, along with communal facilities, was successful.

Concerns had been raised by local residents about the height of the proposed building, but the council felt that these had to be balanced with the need to provide the right sort of facitilities for old people.
