Unibond League Division One North
Rossendale manager, John Hughes, had intended to field an unchanged side from the one that won at Salford on Saturday but his plans were dashed at the last moment when Leonard Rico-Richards and Andre Williams had to pull out of the squad through injury. The first chance of the game fell to Jack Brierley and his thirty yard effort was blocked by a defender who in truth knew little about it.
The Dale could have fell behind a few minutes later when keeper Tom Brocklehurst miscued a back pass to him and it fell to Burke who placed his shot well wide of the empty net. Not to be outdone Chorley took the lead in the twenty first minute when Chris Amadi muscled his way through the defence and placed his shot wide of the keeper into the far corner of the net.
Rossendale fought back and nine minutes later were level when the ball broke to Jack Higgins on the corner of the penalty box and he gave Zac Hibbert in the Chorley goal no chance with a thumping shot. With half time a minute away Rossendale fell behind again when a superb ball out of defence from Reece Kelly found Stephen Burke in the clear and he placed the ball over the advancing Brocklehurst to give Chorley the half time lead.
The second half was a largely uninspiring forty five minutes with the exception of a magnificent double save from Brocklehurst who first denied Porter in a one to one situation and as the ball broke clear made a flying save to prevent the ball going into the top corner and at the other end a double strike at goal from Shaun Williams and Danny Ellis which the Chorley defence managed to scramble away.
