Rossendale United 1 v 1 Salford City
In a rather scrappy game at Dark Lane last night Rossendale extended their unbeaten run to four games and collected another valuable point in their bid to climb away from the foot of the table.
For the first half hour of the match Rossendale dominated the exchanges and looked good value for their lead when, in the seventeenth minute, a free kick was played into the box and Richard Winstanley got the faintest of touches to guide the ball past Robertson in the Salford goal. With the forward pairing of Shannon and Zico-Black causing the Salford defence problems it looked only a matter of time before Rossendale increased their lead but they were rocked on their heels when in the 33rd minute Rhodri Giggs was pulled back as he raced through the defence and he picked himself up to score from the spot to put Salford level.
The rest of the game was a rather untidy affair with the Salford attack being continually caught offside and Rossendale failing to capitalise on good approach play and it was no surprise when neither side was able to add to the score line and a draw was probably the right result.
