Prescot Cables 2 v 2 Rossendale United

On a typical end of season pitch, bone hard and bumpy, Prescot’s long ball approach seemed more suited than Rossendale’s attempt to play a passing game but nevertheless it was Rossendale who went into an early lead when David Owen’s left wing corner was powered home by Kieran Mooney in the thirteenth minute.

Better was to come after thirty two minutes as Rossendale established a two goal lead when Ryan Zico-Black poked the ball home following a mix up in the Prescot defence. Rossendale were coping extremely well with Prescot’s up and under tactics until a handball in the penalty area allowed the home side to reduce the deficit as Dale Wright converted the spot kick.

Prescot continued to bombard the Rossendale defence in the second half and it paid dividends when a second penalty for handball was awarded and Wright duly obliged again from the spot to put the scores level. With time running out Rossendale missed a golden opportunity to secure the points when Alex Leke broke free of his marker and was clear on goal only to lob the ball high over the advancing keeper and unfortunately the bar as well and the chance was gone. With Ossett Albion winning their home game with Chorley it makes Thursdays home game against Harrogate Railway one of vital importance and one Rossendale can not afford to lose.
