Rossendale United 0 v 2 Garforth Town

Rossendale’s defeat on Saturday leaves them five points adrift of Ossett at the bottom of the league and with only two games left almost certainly means that they will face relegation for the second season in succession. The Dale started brightly and after only five minutes David Owens played in Tom Smith and although he was forced wide he got in a shot which was only just over the bar. Garforth then began to get a foot hold in the game and only a last ditch goal line clearance by Keith Wedge kept the scores level. A few minutes later Garforth took the lead when a clever back heel in the box left Adam Clayton the simple task of side footing the ball past Brocklehurst.

Rossendale pushed forward looking for the equaliser and a Danny Thomas cross was cut out by the Garforth defence with Smith and Owens waiting at the far post. Rossendale’s lack of fire power was evident in the second half as their only chances came from free kicks and corners and the Garforth defenders were able to cope with what was coming at them. The inevitable happened in the seventy first minute when Rossendale conceded a penalty and Liam Ormsby made the game safe for Garforth and left Rossendale with a mountain to climb in the next two fixtures.
