Football Goal for Haslingden High

FOOTBALLING girls from Haslingden High School will be enjoying a premier time after winning through to final of a national competition.

Year seven and eight students are set to be treated like celebrities as they head to Blackburn Rovers home ground of Ewood Park for the Premier League National Football Final on May 5.

In the regional finals they represented Blackburn Rovers and took on other North West winners. The team convincingly beat the Manchester City team 6-2, saw off Manchester United 2-1 but lost to Everton 3-0.

Head of PE Wes Haworth said: “It has been a superb accomplishment to get this far in a national competition and the girls deserve immense credit for the way they have performed. The school is fully behind them and will be taking a coach of 100 supporters from school to cheer them on in the final.”

The team: year seven students Jess Maden, twins Antonia and Isabella Chadwick, Leena Turner and Christiana Saxon and year eight students Sian Bretherton, Keira Walsh and Charlotte Finney will receive the five-star treatment and their parents will also be looked after.

Team member Keira Walsh, who plays for Blackburn Rovers, also plays for England under 15s.
