Rossie Links With Local Charity

Date published: 28 May 2010

Global Good Through Football in the Community

Rossendale United are delighted to announce that they are joining forces with Haslingden based charity Agapao International. The charity ‘works globally to empower communities by working with them and not for them: enabling sustainable change. "A candle loses nothing by lighting another candle", so by helping people to "learn the skill : use the skill : share the skill" many communities see a lasting change and improvement.’

The two organisations will be seeking to support joint local programmes that will benefit both the local community and people in Uganda, Africa through the global language of football.

Steve Hobson, Chairman Rossendale United says, ‘My fellow Directors and I met Louise Chicot, Director of the Charity and were ‘blown away’ by her infectious enthusiasm for the charity’s cause. There are many things that we can do to help each other and I believe we will forge increasingly strong links which will benefit a great many people, both here in Rossendale and in Africa.’

Louise Chicot: ‘Football is recognised as a global force for good. We have had huge success in engaging with people using the sport as the catalyst for changing people’s lives. Closer association with our local football team will help us develop stronger links across our community and with the wider ‘football family’. This will bring new interest to both organisations from which we can only benefit.’

Over the coming weeks and months representatives of both organisations will sit down and begin to develop joint initiatives. Watch this space for further news!
