Rossendale United 2 v 0 Glossop North End

Date published: 24 August 2010

With Harry Bockarie back at the heart of the defence Rossendale produced a much more positive performance to defeat visitors Glossop North End at Dark Lane on Saturday (21st August).

Rossendale started the game on the front foot and Doherty could count himself unlucky when his smart turn and shot went just wide of the post.

With Hart’s pace casing the visitors problems it was no more than he deserved when he opened the scoring in the 33rd minute when he cut in from the left and beat keeper Woodhouse with a smart shot to his near post.

Not to be outdone Glossop produced a couple of efforts on goal and keeper Tom Brocklehurst had to be on his toes to keep them out.

The opening phases of the second half were confined to mid field and chances were few and far between but this changed when the Rossendale wide men began to take on the Glossop defence and chances began to be created the best of which was a superb move which ended with a Hart volley from a Wolden cross but unfortunately it just skimmed the bar.

Glossop were causing the Dale rear guard problems with their set pieces and corners but with Bockarie in command all their efforts were held at bay.

Rossendale made the game safe in the 67th minute when a long clearance from Tom Brocklehurst looked to be heading to his opposite number but Doherty put the opposition captain Gorton under pressure and he only succeeded in nodding the ball over his advancing keeper much to the amusement of the crowd behind the goal.

Rossendale’s afternoon was complete when the referee awarded a penalty for hand ball to Glossop and Brackenridge blazed the spot kick well over the bar.

This proved to be the incident of note and Rossendale ran down the clock to record their first league win of the season.
