YOUNG golfer Callum Shaw was a fairway better than his rivals when he won an inter-school contest.

Haslingden High School student Callum, 13, took on competitors aged up to 17 from all over the county in the Lancashire Golf Schools’ Association competition at Darwen Golf Course.

The year nine student, from Bacup, took up the sport two years ago after joining his dad on a golf course and has been passionate about it ever since.

He said: “I found the Darwen course really tough but I managed to win two trophies. I won the Boys’ Nett and was third in the Team Gross competition.”
Callum is dedicated to the sport having his own set of Ping irons. He plays golf at every opportunity and when he is not at the course or on a driving range, he practises his swing at home.

He is a member of Bacup Golf Club where he won a Captain’s Prize and also competed in the BMW Competition at Didsbury.
