Date published: 29 June 2010
A GROUP of 30 gifted and talented students will be taking part in a summer school to will help Fearns reach new heights.
There will be a hectic eight days of activity at Fearns Community Sports College, Stacksteads, led by art teacher Steven Nuttall.
He said: “The title is High Flyers and flight and space will be the theme for the activities which will encompass maths, technology, science, ICT and art and design. “We have been donated a plane from parent Neil Dykes. Although we will not be able to get it flying, it fits in well with our school ethos of further, faster, higher. At summer school we will be making and sourcing parts to complete the plane and also painting it up with a livery to reflect the school.”
The 30 students 15 from Fearns years seven to 10 and 15 from year six feeder primary schools, will also work on creating a DVD to promote the school using an aviation theme.
Visits will be made to the National Space Centre in Leicester where they will undertake a science workshop and the group will also visit Manchester Airport where they will go on the Concorde tour.
