GCSE provisional results - response from Lancashire's Cabinet Member for Children and Schools

Date published: 25 August 2010

County Councillor Susie Charles, Cabinet Member for Children and Schools, said: "I should like to congratulate all our students and their teachers on all their hard work, with initial results suggesting we are heading towards yet another record year for Lancashire schools.

"The targets which school governors set across Lancashire two years ago were impressive in scale of their ambition – they certainly intended to stretch schools and their students.

"Based on this year's provisional results, schools have delivered on their promise.

"I am particularly pleased by the news that all but two of our schools are now above the government's target of 30% of pupils gaining five A*-C grades including English and maths, down from 11 schools just three years ago."
