Mayor's fundraising off to a flying start

Date published: 03/07/2008

THE Mayor of Rossendale celebrated raising £500 at her first fundraising event of the year.

Christine Gill, and her committee, organised a meal at Casa Tapas, in Rawtenstall, to raise money for her official charity, Rossendale Hospice, and a number of smaller charities.

She said: “It was a very jolly evening. Everyone enjoyed the food and the raffle.

“I’m really glad my first fundraiser was such a great success!”

On Saturday, Christine, along with her daughters and sisters, are taking part in the Relay for Life event at Marl Pits, to raise cash for Cancer Research UK.

The ‘Gilly gang’ are walking in memory of Christine’s husband, Peter – the former Mayor of Rossendale, who died in August last year after a battle with kidney cancer.

Christine will help four-year-old sufferer Millie O’Shea, from Shawforth, to open the event.
