Two men charged with £300K Money Laundering

TWO MEN from Haslingden have been charged with Money Laundering offences by officers from Lancashire Constabulary’s Serious and Organised Crime Unit.

George Alan Waring, 58, of Hud Rake, Haslingden, and Leslie Wayne Cowe, 36, of Hud Hey Road, Haslingden, were both charged yesterday.

Waring was charged with laundering £113,757.51 and Cowe with laundering £160,120.99. Both had allegedly opened bank accounts in the names of non existent businesses to facilitate the payment of monies from unclaimed endowment policies from a large financial services company providing pensions and investment products.

Enquires are still ongoing to trace assets of Waring and Cowe and the other individuals involved. Both will appear next at Preston magistrates court on 12 May 2008.
