Warm Weather Warnings

Date published: 12/05/2008

During a spell of warm weather, such as we are currently enjoying, we tend to become a little leisurely towards home security.

Police are warning householders to be particularly vigilant at such times. "Keep doors locked even when you are inside the property - especially when doing gardening at the back of the house."

The most recent burglary was in Radcliffe Street, Haslingden, between 11.30pm on May 5 and 8.10am on May 6. Thieves got in through an insecure ground-floor window .

PC Phil Buck, crime prevention officer, said: "There have been a spate of burglaries where people leave doors and windows insecure, particularly in this warmer weather.
If you have to have windows open, make sure they are not ones in unoccupied rooms on the ground floor or first-floor windows by flat roofs. "
