Whitworth Mayor Making Procession

This Sunday afternoon, the new Mayor and Mayoress of Whitworth, Councillor Jim and Mrs Susan Mellor, took part in the traditional Mayor-making ceremony. The procession began at the old Council Offices on Market Street, led by Whitworth Vale & Healey Band, and accompanied by uniformed organisations and Mayors and Chairmen of nearby towns, including Rochdale and Shaw.

A number of people joined the procession, which took place in fine weather and all the people were in good heart. The procession concluded at the new Civic Hall in Whitworth (The Riverside), where the new mayor and mayoress were ushered through a guard of honour , made by Cub Scouts and Brownies, into the building for a service led by local ministers.
