Valley schools compete for eco award

SCHOOTwo Rossendale Valley schools have been short-listed for an award as most eco-friendly establishments. They are primary school St Paul's Constable Lee Primary, from Rawtenstall, and secondary school, Haslingden High School.
Five primary and secondary schools are in the running for the green distinction as part of Lancashire County Council chairwoman Coun Wendy Dwyer's Challenge Champions 2008 initiative, and the award winners will be announced next Thursday.
Other schools from Burnley and Pendle are competing to be named as Lancashire's most eco-friendly educational establishments.
Five primary and secondary schools are in the running for the green distinction as part of Lancashire County Council chairwoman Coun Wendy Dwyer's Challenge Champions 2008 initiative.
Each school must present their plans on how to make their local area healthier, through a presentation, dance, drama or a musical piece.
The winning schools will be awarded £1,000 to allow them to put their environmental ideas into practice.
