Join in group putting valley on the map

A COMPANY set up to help regenerate the rural areas of Rossendale and rest of the South Pennines is looking for volunteers to join an action group.

The job is to come up with ideas for specific schemes and projects which could qualify for up to £1.8 million from the EU and the UK Government over the next six years.

"The Local Action Group will represent the different social, environmental and economic interests in the South Pennines, and help us to run the exciting programme we are planning aimed at improving the overall quality of life and prosperity, especially in our rural communities," said Pennine Prospects development manager Graham Joyce.

"We are looking for enthusiastic and knowledgeable people who want to help us put the South Pennines on the map."

Pennine Prospects was set up in 2005/6 as a regeneration company consisting of partners from councils in Calderdale, Bradford, Kirklees, Lancashire, Rochdale, Rossendale and Oldham.

It also comprises of representatives of the Environment Agency, Natural England, Yorkshire Water and United Utilities, the NFU, Northern Rail, the National Trust, Pennine Heritage, and the South Pennines Association.
