Great news this week that the Railway Station at Rawtenstall has been named 5th in a list of national stations that should be re-opened and begin to run passenger services from once more.
This can be seen as nothing but positive. We are already working on several fronts to try and ensure this happens and this is a confirmation that the powers that be agree with us.
It may well be some way off but the boost to Rawtenstall and Rossendale would be fantastic when this happens.
I now intend to ask all the various groups involved to step up the campaign so we can keep the momentum rolling and hopefully bring this about sooner rather than later.
There was a major shift of control at County Hall in the County Council election results last week.
However, one thing that is unlikely to change in local government is the number of acronyms used and the confusion this causes. Our new Councillor for Helmshore Amanda Milling complained to me this week that she finds this particular part of local government daunting – well I think we all do. Amongst others which are constantly being discussed are LAA (Local Area Agreement), the MAA (Multi Area Agreement) and the CAA (Comprehensive Area Assesment).
Last week we had cause to celebrate as a family when my new grandson George Anthony Lyons was born at Fairfield. Both mother and son are doing wonderfully well. Just a quick note to Katie and Gordon to say that you have made me an extremely proud person.
