About The Maden Centre

A brief history.

The Maden Early Years & Community Centre was originally an old Victorian Swimming Baths situated on the main road in a disadvantaged pocket of The Rossendale Valley. With guidance from the Sure Start unit, consultation took place involving a range of professionals and the community of Bacup. From discussion it was decided that the building would start to be renovated in 2002 with an estimated £1.5 million pounds from a variety of funders. This would become the 'hub' for Bacup & Stacksteads Sure Start, to provide a multi functional service for parents, carers and children.

In July 2004 the doors opened to the  OL13 community and services and partnership working began to evolve, the facilities and recources we offer play a central role in improving outcomes for all young children and increasing the availability of high quality early years provision and other health and family support services as well as improving support for their transition into school.

We are a very commited team and all members of staff thrive and dedicate their energy into the diverse services we offer. The centre has always had a vision of partnership working and not one of tokenism. Each service is clear and confident on their remit and how that remit dovetails into the services provided by its partnership agencies.

Since 2004 approximately 60 staff in individual roles have worked together to create succesful partnership working within the community of Bacup & Stacksteads.
